Balbo, Tom
Tom Balbo has a BA in Studio Arts and a Masters Degree at Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts in Syracuse, New York. There he was awarded the Syracuse University Fellowship Grant in 1979 and 1980, and the Ford Foundation Grant. His work at Syracuse focused on ceramics and printmaking, but he also developed interests in papermaking and sculpture. Tom's work has received substantial critical attention and acclaim and he has received several awards and prizes. He took first place in 1981 at the Boston Mills Art Show. Other awards include the Central New York Art Show in 1979, the Kenneth Beck Juried Show in 1978, and The 1977 P.A.A.C. Juried Show. Balbo also took best of show in the 1996 Ohio Craft Museum. Balbo has a technical expertise in using paper as an artistic medium. He actively creates art in Cleveland, Ohio and teaches instructional workshops for up in coming artist.
