Harry Brorby was born in 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. Brorby was a teacher as well as an artist. Having a studio on Lake Michigan, Harry has been able to paint and live near Holland, Michigan. Harry won top prize at the Chicago Art Institute’s “Chicago Show” in 1959. His education included a MFA from the University of Iowa with an Etching Major under the direction of Mauricio Lasansky. Harry Brorby has exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Brooklyn Museum, Los Angeles Art Museum, Walker Art Center, and the Seattle Art Museum. Brorby’s focus is often on minimal art, as shown in his March 20, 1971 “Yellow Series” at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Brorby died June, 2012.
