Halsey, Brian
In 1942, Brian Halsey was born in Kendallville Indiana. He graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College in Illinois. He also studied at The Chicago Art Institute and Michigan State University where he also graduated magna cum laude. Halsey also has a M.A. degree in Church History and the Creative Arts. He also has a Ph. D in Humanities from Florida State University. His studies have taken him to London, Paris, Holland, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. His Awards include a States Steel Fellowship scholarship to study at Florida State University, and distinctions and recognition from: Society of American Graphics Artists, National Academy of Design, Pratt Graphic Center International Print Exhibition, Los Angeles Printmaking Society, Print Club Galleries in Philadelphia PA, and the Metropolitan Museum and Art Center in New York, and has enjoyed exhibitions including one man shows at National Academy of Design, N.Y.; Pratt Graphic Center, N.Y.; Metropolitan Museum and Art Center; and other venues. His work is collected in public and private corporations and museums including: Arthur Anderson Co.; Westinghouse Electric, Pittsburgh PA, Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, MI; Bank of America Corp., San Francisco, CA.; I.B.M. New York, N.Y.; Sun Bank of Florida; United States Steel Foundation, Pittsburgh, PA; Prudential Insurance Co., Houston, TX; National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; Brooklyn Museum of Art; Denver Art Museum; Detroit Institute of Arts; Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco; Grunwald Center for Graphic Arts, University of California; Norton Gallery, West Palm Beach Florida; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Minneapolis Institute of Arts; Baltimore Museum of Art; Phoenix Art Museum; Indianapolis Museum of Art; McNay Art Institute, San Antonio, TX; The National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C.; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y.; and National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto, Japan. Halsey taught art at Spring Arbor College before devoting his career full time to painting and printmaking.
